10U, give girls chances to play but still play to win to some degree. If you know your going up against a good team then put your best players in the game. If you know it's a weaker team then play the girls that don't get as much of a chance? hoped it helped.

Yes, it did. Thanks.

I know coaches usually have subs play for two innings. Sometimes that is even a rule. Win, but play people

The "grumblings" you are hearing are common and no matter which way you go someone won't be happy.
Generally, you want to develop a love for the game with all players on the team at that age, this is my belief no matter what level (at that age) you play.
That being said, I would probably opt (on a select team as you describe) for my strongest line up, including how rotations are set up, against stronger teams making adjustments to this depending on who we are playing. I would also, at this age (at any level) try and keep playing time as equal as possible without destroying the potential of the team.
This will take a great deal of thought and balance of skill to accomplish. It is not easy to do.
All in all, keep the idea of developing the team and each individuals potential at the center of your decisions, regardless of what others may think, and you will be doing a great job.
And at especially 10, never lose the "FUN" in the game. Actually a good coach will keep the fun in the game at any age.
Best of luck!!!

If the parents keep complaining talk to them and tell them whats up.. If the players are doing it then you need to talk to them and probably sit them out, even if it's one of your better players

Softball Chic,
A select team, or all star team, often has different team and individual goals than a regular season team. Each regular season team will likely have its equal share of beginners, intermediate, and all star caliber players. Emphasis is typically on individual skills, and all players deserve an equal opportunity-regardless of the score. In select, where all of the players are hand picked based on skill strength, emphasis usually switches to winning, using the best or most productive players. -
It depends on your coaching philosophy...Make sure to just be clear on your players on what you plan when certain situation happens so they won't be surprise on any move you take.
