This is very common at this age. Many rec leagues have rules that if a batter throws the bat they are called out. What I have always told my girls is to take 2 steps after they hit the ball and drop the bat. I have also heard of putting a hula hoop on the ground during practice and having the girls drop the bat in the hoop after they hit the ball.

Just practice swinging the bat and just dropping it I think the reason that you are throwing the bat is that she might feel rushed. I used to throw the bat when I was 8 or 9. I just told myself not to throw the bat, problem solved.

Coach Al, is right on the money. Draw a circle in the dirt or use a holahoop placed right along the 1st base line next to the batter box, and have each of the girls swing or hit off a tee and practice dropping the bat in the circle.

a drill would be to have a home base and pitch the ball .tell her not to be in any rush just slowly have her count about 2 steps dropthe bat then run to first. very simple, and when she gets up to bat in a game she will not have to count then drop she will just take a few steps then drop and run.

all you have to tell her is to not carry the bat and just like everyone has been saying make her feel comfortable and not to be in such a rush! i am on a travel and a rec ball team and i never did this but i have seen girls do it and all i tell them is to not be in such a rush and to relax!

That happened yesterday at our U12 game, the other coach told the girl that the umpire would call her out if she did it again.

We also joked about it and asked her that if she does it again, could she throw it in the direction of the other coaches, joking about it made lightened up the situation.

This should be practiced during trainings. Let her repeat hitting on full swing so she knows exactly what is the right way to swing without throwing the bat
