How Do You Properly Handle Young Football Maniacs?

I am interested in parents that have kids that are solely focused on one sport, and have been since they could talk. How have you proceeded with that? Have you dedicated your time towards that single pursuit? Or, did you opt to have them more well rounded? Did you get them involved in the sport right away? Or, did you hold them out? Do you have other children that you have to share time with as well? Please share.

    You have to have a talk with them and make them understand your rules.

    My daughters, both of whom went on to play DI sports on scholarship in their respective sports, were multi-sport athletes until they made the decision to specialize. For one that was in eighth grade, for the other that was sophomore year in high school.

    Your question is a complicated one with no absolute answer for every situation, no matter what the "experts" might tell you. Yes, there is overkill in either extreme, too many sports or single sport focus, with both sides of the extreme having risk.
