    Hi Terri,

I have had athletes throw at a target on the fence. Look for one of those targets people put on hay bales or barns or whatever is available when they want to target shoot with a bow & arrow.

Ask them to throw hard at a short distance for accuracy and keep moving them back..

    Hope it helps a bit

I used to worked with my 14U team when they were 12U then. We would really work hard on proper wrist snap when throwing, and we would do alot of speed throwing drills. Just like when you warm before a game, but we would pick up the pace until they were throwing so hard back and forth to each other it sounded like fireworks popping. But proper form while doing these drills is the most important. If the form is not there, I would not worry about speed and accuracy until the form was consistant.

I am a former high school softball coach and now I coach a 14u team. What I do is start out with just controlled wrist snaps and have the partner catch with soft hands (no glove). Then when accomplished this task, you scoot the girls back further and then do stronger wrist snaps then again scoot back and throw just wrist and elbow still using soft hands.

There is also a drill we do which is hard to explain on here but if you would like for me to send pics with explaination, holler and I will exchange emails with full details. Here, we call it the "TEXAS T" throw. It has corrected side armers as well as girls that have heat and even rainbows to throw correctly, accurately and taking time off of the throw as well as having a direct throw.

    Good Luck to you

Teach the players proper throwing technique first, and there are good suggestions here. Once they are throwing properly, introduce a speed drill. One I've used is called "four corners." put a player at each base. The goal is to catch and release the ball quickly to the next base. This also teaches the player how catch, turn and throw the ball effectively. This should be a quick drill with the ball moving around the bases quickly. Then reverse the circle and throw the ball in the other direction. Make it a game so the players have to keep the ball moving for one minute, then two minutes, without missing a catch or throw. Make it fun!

make your girls hold their arm straight up in the air and on the count of the three make them push their arms outward to the catchers glove and tell your girls not to release the ball till their hand until it is like 4 inches from starting position and the ball will probably just roll out of the throwers hand
