How do you adjust to drier oil patterns?

My house pattern doesn't have a lot of oil because they dont oil the lanes very often. This makes it tough because my ball hooks a lot. Do you have any tips on where to stand or where to target on the lane?

Dry lanes can be tough. With a hook it is easy to adjust, simply move your target out a half mark at a time. If you get out as far as you can go and are still hooking too far, then, keeping your target out there, move your standing point in towards the center until your hook lands in the pocket. On extremely dry lanes you may have to move across to the other side of center.

    1. Thank you! You brought up a good point to not only move your mark on the lane but move your standing point.

For me, dryer lanes will have a much greater hook so I start at the opposite end instead of my normal or maybe the second dot. Though if you bowl straight with a house ball, it shouldn't affect much.

    1. Thank you, also my ball has a hook potential of about 30 out of 40 if that helps any.

    Lexi:
Typically the first choice for most people would be to change balls... assuming you have an arsenal that consists of different cover stocks and drill patterns from aggressive to weaker.

I agree with adjusting you feet and target, however, I'm a huge proponent of changing hand position as opposed to changing balls. This allow you to maintain using the same ball and will lead to less severe adjustment on the lanes with your feet and/or target.

    1. yes, i have a medium aggresive ball. I have a Colombia 300 Freeze. That is my strike ball. For my spare ball i have a Strom Ice. I highly recommend this ball if you are looking for a spare ball. Thank you I tried your idea and it really helps.

what I do is that when I get up to bowl I will move a board then my usual pattern because when the lanes get dry the ball will not hook as much

What I do when the lanes are dry, I move my feet amd eyes two dots and arrows and try to create some angle, and increase my speed. Another thing to do is to try giving your ball a little loft, and that should make your ball hook a little later than usual(hopefully in the pocket).

For dry lanes try to give 80%swing and 20%hand,that means swing a little faster. Good Luck!!!!!
