Hi Brandon, Speed is an important skill. For speed in Baseball I can think of a couple of things: (1) stay low until you are at full speed, fast players get to full speed at about 3 steps; (2) pay attention the quicker you react the faster you will be; (3) take a smart lead and good secondary lead - if your league allows it;(4) run smart, touch the base on the inside corner and round the bases properly; (5) learn to make good sharp accurate slides (feet first is the best way to go); (6) Stay in good conditioning, run laps everyday; (7) and don't forget to strech out before and during the game. Running is one of the best parts of the baseball, have fun with it.

One way to increase speed is by making sure you are staying conditioned and well hydrated, but one thing I do with players when training is to have then purchase 2lb and 5 lb ankle wts. They have to practice running in them by first walking slow, then walking fast, slow job, trot and then full speed. You will be amazed at the difference in your times when clocked after doing this and building your stamina and muscle strength.

    Hope this helps

Run, Run, Run! Couple suggestions like Barb. You can run up and down a few flights of stairs, run hills, you'll be amazed, but the 200yd dash will help also. Stay flexible and try to build a little muscle.

Hey Brandon, look it is simple for one DONT USE ANKLE WTS !! It will hurt your knees. The best thing you can do is condition your legs run hills, do shuttle runs, 40yrd sprints, use hurdles. Things like that that are healthy for your legs. I dont know how old you are but use the gym too. Like squats the leg press.

sprint up and down hills. running up them will strengthen your legs and running down them you'll run faster than you're capable on flat ground but your legs will get used to moving faster. plus it's fun :D

also in track we used bungee chords which accomplished the same sort of thing as running hills. the person at the front of the chord strengthened their legs cuz they had to pull the person in back. and the person in back ran faster then they'd ever run normally. also pretty fun imo unless you trip lol ;)
