Cheering is part of the game in softball, up through the college level. Hey - this is a game of small successes! Cheering helps us to celebrate plays and players, brush off errors and keep energy up.

There's an emphasis for our youth league in cheering FOR our teams, league and players, not AGAINST the other. For example, rooting on our batters or chanting "3-up, 3-down, we don't mess around" when we're in the field are encouraged. An entire bench repeating, "We are SLOWLY putting PRESSURE on the PITCHER and the CATCHER!" to rattle the other team is not allowed. This helps to keep everything positive at the early stages.

Keep cheering simple the reason the kids are playing is to learn the game. If they are always cheering they will not pay attention to the game. Do not use cheers that hurt the other teams feelings? It is better to build a person up then shoot them down.

That's a great start thank you evvery body. I got some good ones I will post here as well when I get a spare minute between going to both teams practices and games hahaha :)

One person yells it really loud to intimadate the other team, and the rest of the team repeat's it.

My favorite is "three up! [clap, clap] three down! [clap, clap] don't mess [clap, clap] around!"

It only works when you are on defense though.

When I played in Venezuela and we got a runner on base, our fans would chant "Un Hit!" and the opponents fands would chant "Doble Play!" and that would go back and forth the whole inning.

my fav thing to do is think of some songs to kind of tie into the sport. for example. when the pitcher on the other team throws a ball in the dirt ( i call those wormburners) u can sing another one bites the dust
