my 9 year old takes 300-350 a week and this is probably about half of what she should do for accuracy and strength. Jack is right though, you should get in as many as possible, as much as time will allow. Working on more then just simple set shots is important. drive and take pull up shots. stop and go. layups. head fakes with 1-2 dribbles and then shoot. so on and so forth.

He or she should practice about 50 shots each day. As they get older, add ten each month. It'll be a good practice.

To be honest, he or she shouldn't be practicing jump shots at all. Too many kids practice jump shots. The objective in basketball is to score. The best way to score is to get close to the basket for an easy shot. Dribbling is key because you can either shoot layups, which are high percentage shots, or you can pass the ball to someone else for a high percentage shot.
If you remember, Magic Johnson beat out Jordan for MVP several years because he produced more total points, when assists were considered. Assists teach you about the importance of teamwork. Scoring is more individual. Great dribbling (penetration) can net you both. Lebron James is not known for his jump shot. He is known for getting to the rim!
