my son has starte to straighten his back during is swing, just befor contact. How can I get him to stay leaning over the plate?

while swinging to make contact, he pulls out, while striding towards home, just missing the ball. Timing is on but just missing, swing over the ball.

Sounds like way to much movement, every time the head moves the ball moves visually, straighting up changes the plane of the bat (high swing), but I don't understand how he can open up and close at the same time and get his lead foot planted. Can you explain.

    1. he plants his foot 1st, as he opens up he straightens during the swing

    2. have him get into the batters box with his right knee on the ground and his left foot where he usally has it. (his left heal should be even with his toes of his right foot) Make sure he is off his butt and not resting it on his right foot. This will cause him to control his "over-stride and force him to keep a balance, forcing him not to open his stance. If he opens up too much he will fall forward. If he steps too much toward the platel, he will not be able to make a full swing. You may need to drop to a lighter bat. I would do this before every batting practice to help remind him of the control he needs. Hope the little guy hits a 1.000 this year!!

    3. thanks, but what I meant was, when he begins to open his hips, just before contact, he straightens his back. If he didn't swing, it would look as he was trying to avoid high-heat without stepping back.

Oh I see now...try making him swing off the tee standing back in the batters box toward 3rd base in slow motion forcing his arms to fully extend. Speed up the swing little by little until he can swing 100% correctly. Then go to soft toss for about 10 minutes, if he looks good, then try pitching back at the mound. If he starts pulling out again, go back to the tee.
    Good Luck, Coach!
