We play 11-12 year old ball. I have a 11 year old that consistantly throws strikes at 58 mph. I would have to guess that 65 mph for a 13 year old would be extreamly fast.

I have had older 12's, younger 13's throw 73-74 mph. That's about as fast as I have seen at that age.

Don't be caught up in speed. There are three criterias to pitching: (1) location; (2) movement (3) speed. Speed is the least important. Hit your location and get movment (12 year olds should accomplish this with a good 2 seamer). Don't over throw.

Like Mark said; location, movement and speed. You don't have to throw hard to pitch (aka Greg Maddux). Your job is to trick the eye of the batter by changing speeds and location. The pitcher has 7 players behind him, use them especially at that age.

    Speed is not that important.

Here are the top three, in order from most important to least important

    1. Location
    2. Location
    3. Location

The real trick about speed is to be able to change speed and not let the batter know you are changing speed. At 13 years old a fast ball (especially if it moves a little) and a good chang-up are a fantastic combination. The secret is to be able to throw the pitches to the spot that they are most effective, which will vary from batter to batter.

Depending on the how far the pitchers mount is , if hes playing jr high ball or pony leauge ball . Jr. high around 66 to 73 , pony around 60 to 70 . At that age its a big adjustment from going from 46 ft to 60 ft . It takes awhile for the arms to get stronger, at least it did for me , but by the time I got to high school my arm had become much stronger , my 10th grade year I was throwing in my upper 80s to low 90s.

Should a 7-8 baseball team forfeit rather than play a team w/ a coach who files protests every game, including lifetime league ban requests?
