Josh, you need to talk to your parents about it, but before you do talk to your coach and gather all the reasons why the ball you want is best for your game. present these reasons in a level headed manner to your parents, but remember that they are the ones who have your best interests in mind plus they are probably paying for it, and after presenting all your reasons for the ball you want you must accept their decision about which one you get.

    Josh:
Coach Balasco makes some good and valid points. By your question, I am assuming that you are looking for your parents to pay for any new equipment. With that being said, you must be able to honestly answer why you need a new bowling ball.

Assuming you are past who will pay for the ball, I suggest you consult with your local IPBSIA Certified Pro Shop operator for ball choice. Do not trust that either your parents or your coach are completely up to speed on bowling equipment. The IPBSIA Certified Pro-Shop operator needs to be up to speed since that is their business. Bowling balls are far more technical in nature than you might think regarding cover stock, core, weight block, RG, and Mass Bias. Bowling balls are not cheap and suggest you consult with a professional before making your purchase.

You should have a detailed discussion with the pro shop about your bowling style, where you typically play on the lanes, which centers you bowl in, what lane conditions you typically bowl on (if you know), what equipment you currently have, and lastly what you expect for reaction out of a new bowling ball. Many times the ball that will suit you best may not be the one you were looking at.

However, with all that being said, you are the customer and must make the final determination on what ball you want.

    Good Luck!

    1. l agree whole-heartedly. This is exactly what l did when l went to get a new ball. Well, not the parents part but the going to the pro shop part. Then he measured me right on the spot and had the ball fit perfectly to me and everything. You knew he was the one to talk to. He knew what he was doing more than anyone else. Any question l had about anything regarding balls or the game he knew the answer. That's who you wanna talk to. :)

    Josh,

I completely agree with what Coach Frye suggests! You have to get your parents approval first, especially if they will be paying for it.

However, If it were me, I would do some of the research before talking to your parents. Usually the best way to get them on board with you is to know exactly what you want and why. Knowing what kind of ball you want will help. You will already know the price range at least so them knowing that will help them decide whether they can help or not. You can go to www.ballreviews.com and find out what other people are saying about the equipment that is out there. After that, I would definitely suggest talking to your pro shop about the ideas you have. They will be able to make sure they get you a ball that fits into what you are looking for and make sure that it fits your hand properly. Talking to the pro shop before hand won't hurt. You aren't required to buy and they like to help.

    Good luck!
