The way my father taught me was first to pitch like a boy pitcher. then to set up a hang-man type structure with a hanging tire. Have the girls practice throwing through the tire and make it a game. Or set them up in the outfield and put a Large trashcan marking the area they need to throw to. have a box on the outside of the trashcan and either see if they can make it in the can or hit the square. also make it a game. have them do this over and over again and they will begin to see how hard they need to throw to be accurate. make sure their throwing mechanics are correct.

Proper mechanics!!!! Use legs - proper alignment of the body - proper follow through, etc, etc, etc.
I strongly believe that fundamentals/mechanics will give you the most distance AND accuracy in throwing while minimizing stress and strain on the athletes body.
Work on it every single day, not only in throwing drills when you're working on it, but all the time. Warm-ups are such a big part of creating habits. After all, players warm-up every single day. What they do in warm-up often translates to what they do when it's time to "read and react" instead of think.
Make sure to emphasize good mechanics in warm-up!
Once you have them doing pretty well with mechanics do fun drills like "hit the bucket" - but a bucket on top of another or on a short stool and have them throw the ball at the bucket to try to hit it down. The distance between your throwers and your bucket are up to you.

You start with the criss cross sit. They first learn to hold the ball across the seams and palm facing are up with a ball in it,Elbow even with ear. They snap to partner sitting 10 feet away just snapping it with arm following through to parallel to ground. They must lead with left elbow pointing at partners glove as target.then they proceed to more of a follow-through with arm coming down and to the ground in front. They then proceed to one knee(RIGHT KNEE FOR RIGHT HANDED THOWER,Left knee and shoulder and elbow pointed to partners glove and do the same progression as sitting but move them back 10 more feet.FOLLOW THROUGH BY TOUCHING GROUND IN FRONT OF LEFT TOE.Do the same standing then process to right, foot left foot, throw, pushing off right toe, pulling are back as they walk through.

Establish good basics with your players. For accuracy make sure that you emphasize on making their glove arm, shoulder and foot (at a 45-degree angle) at glove side face the target. Make sure that the middle finger is positioned on top of the ball when ball is behind and above shoulder prior to throwing.
For longer distance, teach your players to crow hop so they will use the power of their legs as well. This will help them just go with the flow of their momentum. A good release and spin from the player will help with the speed of ball. Tell them that the fingers are last to touch the ball when released.
Hope this will help...Im sure your players will be stronger and more accurate soon :)

On distance, at such a young age I would just have them throw long toss after their arms are warm. Use a big arm circle( thumb by the thigh fingers to the sky wave bye-bye) so they don't hurt thier shoulder, and the distance should be just a bit farther than they can throw now and keep moving them back a little at a time. Remember to use proper throwing mechanics first good luck

We have this thing we do which is called four corners . This is how you do it. Its very helpful and a little tiring. Start with a square with one corner at home, another approx 15 feet up the 3rd base line, another 15 feet towards 2nd, another 15 feet towards 1st.
Softball starts at home and can go either way. Let's say you go clockwise and the player throws to 3rd. Then from the 3rd base corner to the 2nd base corner, then to 1st, then to home, and repeat.
Once this goes around 3 times, the players that are not at home, go out to the next set of cones, 15 further away, and repeat. After 3 rounds again, they go all the way back to the bags and finish with 3 more rounds. You can make this a competition and keep track of the times throughout the softball season. What you end up with is 3 squares that progressively get larger and you are going around the horn. You can do this going both ways and focusing on receiving the ball with 2 hands, turning glove side when appropriate.
