My 8th Grade son's 4x200 meter relay team has a good chance to medal at the State meet on May 16th. Any tips to shave a few seconds?

My son runs the first leg of the relay, so he's coming out of the starting blocks. Any tips for improving his start or cutting his split time with two weeks to go before State?

lean forward at the end! you or your son probably already knew that, but incase you didn't, leaning doesn't help you shave off time as much as win when you're neck in neck with someone.

My 4x200 team just beat the school record by 2.5 secs. I am third leg but I have ran the first leg before. Make sure he knows what his lead foot is, and make sure he doesn't come right up when he explodes out of the blocks, that can make his time longer. And for the hand-off I don't know what to tell you for his split time, but if you want the team to do good, I would do the 3 pump method. The 3 pump method is where the person receiving the baton will start sprinting and count 3 pumps to the left arm, and then on the 3rd pump put his left arm straight back so that the person can lay it right in his hands and he won't have to turn. We used to just stand there take the baton and run... Trust me, the 3 pump helps A ALOT.
