We are having the same trouble. I told my daughter to keep calling the name of the player with the ball and tell them you are open!
-
well i used to yell ball or clap my hands dont every say im open because once some one sees that your open they will come over and gaurd you
-
Our coach doesn't want us to yell or clap because there is already enough noise in the gym.

just talk to the person on a timeout or a training session...tell him/her watch for the open player...

i agree with Alex, take a timeout and explain to them and tell them to keep there eyes up when bringing the ball down so you can see the court and your teammates better, if your running plays then the point should know where to go and if not there teammate needs to get open and cut quickly it just takes time of meshing as a team, it will come in time.

I agree with Alex, and Tisha. I know that on the team that I coach it is important for all players to move the ball around and find open players. We work on keeping our eyes on and up the floor. I also know that at times some have my players think they are open, but they are not or they are to far away from the ball to get it. We dont allow what I call "chirpping" when a player that insist they are open and constantley "CHIRPS" for the ball gets the pass then the defender is able to easily steal it..
We have worked to hard on moving the better and it does not come early. even when a player gets open a good point guard has to take care of the ball and make sure it gets there. Practice, practice, practice.... It does take work and a good group of passers!!!

All these are good comments. You need to keep your eyes up at all times so you can see what is happening. If your teammate doesn't see you, I recommend a fast motion with your hand. A wave of sorts. Something to catch their attention without the D coming to guard you. Eyes are attracted to motion. If they still don't see you, get a new point guard. ;) Or work on developing a better understanding of each others game. Players that are familiar with each other can predict where they will go like a 6th sense.

We are 5th graders and some of us don't keep our eyes up.

practice makes for improvement... i know you can do it Carly i have an 8 year old who does it now with ease, I know its possible.
