make sure he can block and catch the ball with his HANDS cause u have a better chance of catching it.. coaches like players that can catch with their hands not their body.. i know that because i play WR

when they say with hands they mean away from body and use fingers to grab the ball, if you use the palm of your hand the ball bounces right out sometimes stone hands they call it. good drill is to get a three point stance and practice blocking and pulling for screens because until the college level there is very small if non passing game

The best thing to do is start in a three point stance. Have a blocking dummy or someone with a pad stand in front of him On the snap of the ball have him fire out into the block, release and then go out for a pass in a number of different pass patterns. When he gets tired of that drill start on a few with just pass patterns.

If you have a few kids to practice with I would set up two lines about ten yards apart and have one line (the receiver line) run towards the second line (the distractor line) and throw the ball to the receiver the distractor line runs towards the receiver and put their hands up as if they were going to catch the ball put they are not to touch the ball it is just to help the receiver to concentrate on the ball and not the defender. They trade lines every time so that the receiver and the defender get a chance at receiving.

For diagrams and more drills like this go to amazon.com and see my new book Youth Football Manual by Dan Nappi or just e-mail me and I will draw it up for you coachnappi@yahoo.com

Heres an idea. ( im just sitting on the computer typing anything so might not me duh best answer)

Have him line up in his spot. Put someone on him as the person who would be covering him. Have him run out in some pass patterns. Next work on stances. the 3 point stance is just bending your knees, putting one hand on the ground. (the other hand could be anywhere. on your back, rested on your knee, or i have mine holding my arm that is down)

When his stance is set have him work on a basic block on a guy holding a dummy. Then get more advance, work on pulling, motion and other advanced stuff. Then, you could form a basic 11 man defense (doesnt have to be a real team, could be reletives, friends, even neighbors willing to help.
All you need is on other person. that person huddles up with the tight end guy, tells him what to do and then says "BREAK" as he runs to the line of scrimmage. Say "down, set, hut one!" and he will block or run for a pass.
