Stretch and keep leaning forward to improve flexibility which helped me and force yourself down also try standing up then just falling into the best split you can.

Try elevating your front foot while you're in the split. That way it forces the muscles to go further, so a flat split is easier. Also, the amount of time you hold it makes a difference. I would start with 30 seconds, and then work up to a couple minutes on one side.

you have to hold the splits for a long time. not just for thirty seconds. you could also get into your splits and then put your arms up for a couple of seconds. it will stretch you more

you should stand in front of wall bars and tie a yoga band to your ankle and the second bar from the floor, hold on to the wall bars and kick the leg you want to stretch, it stretches your hip flexer!!!!

get a couple of phone books and stack them up then put whichever foot up on top and go into your splits. the longer you hold the splits the better they will get. but don't push yourself to far because you could really hurt yourself.

The way I learned too do the splits is by getting a friend (or anyone) and putting my heel on their shoulder and my other foot on the ground have your friend lean back a little at a time work your way up and see how far you can get. DO NOT push yourself! You could really get hurt!
