It really depends on "where" your pitcher is developmentally. Are the mechanics right? Does she have a solid foundation, the kinks out of her routine?

All pitchers should be pitching everyday. Pitch count differs with experience and age.

I cannot stress enough, however, the importance of proper mechanics when pitching.

Everyday will be good with a day of rest. Practice should vary on intensity. If you're a beginner pitcher make sure to focus on proper mechanics as Lisa just said it's very important. For more advance pitchers conditioning and pitching drills may be alternated and of course other aspects of being a pitcher should be practiced like fielding and covering bases.

Varying intensity means have a variety of volume or repetition of drills. You must have light, medium and heavy training days within a week.

Don't forget to work on the strength and flexibility side of the equation. Got to have the appropriate balance of preparation, competiton, and recovery.

How old is this pitcher? Many will throw every day. Many of the ones who become very good at what they do will throw every day. I also do believe in rest though. Pushing too hard can do more harm than good. However, players often throw overhand 6 days a week without much problem (given that they are using good mechanics, warming-up properly, and training to increase overall athleticism and not just throwing).

Personally, I think that core/functional training is really important in pitchers. It will help develop the whole body to support the muscles needed to pitch even better. You can learn more about it and see a sample exercise at http://tr.im/coretraining
