First of all the dvd is not ruined. You can mute the audio and edit in the dance music. This can be done with any basic movie editing software. If you can not do it ask around you probably know someone who can. There is no reason not to preserve their homecoming because some old biddy.
If you want to address the person who made the comments feel free to give her an unedited version and let you know what you did not to ruin her granddaughters memories.
There is no need to let everyone know what happen it will just create more drama then what you need. There will always be negative people. You can not control them. You can only control your response to them.

also would not post things like how you put it so rudely all though im sure you did not mean it that way or as you said just venting but you may want to keep those things a little more private as they say it is a small world an you never konw, the wrong person might read that.

Oh wow- I did not mean it to be rude but I guess people hear things in different ways and it totally could be heard that way. I was really upset when I posted... I am a volunteer and this season has been one of those difficult ones (rain!), this just added more to my to do list, which is loooong enough. I will not have time to do editing until after the season is over.... but as you guys mentioned, the tape can be salvaged, so it will get done, just a little late ;-) I will probably still refilm girls so they will have something to show loved ones over the holiday break.
Now that I am not in day after shock I can laugh and say there will always be unpleasable old ladies in the world- lol! We live and learn, next time I will set up a perimeter. It would be pointless and harsh to shame anyone for this.
As for the wrong person reading it, I just hope they can understand where I am coming from. We worked hard on that routine and I felt ALL THE GIRLS did a great job! PERIOD! (and was most especially proud of the little one who missed practices b/c she had the moves down well enough and only needed more practice for timing sake, plus she is one of the youngest girls and a first year) Several squads cancelled their half time performances because lack of practice with all the rain (no gym available)- My girls held out, worked hard and did it! That is where I was coming from and I could not fanthom anything other than fawning, doting Nana's- LOL! -
It's so upsetting to me to hear negative comments about any event by adult fans directed at CHILDREN, especially when the negative adults are usually ones who know little about the work and preparation that go into whatever they're bashing.
My dad often tells a story of when I was somewhere between Kindergarten and 2nd grade playing in a community soccer organization. I'm sure all you soccer parents know the drill - set up lawn chairs and blankets on the sidelines and watch a mob of little kids all chase a ball. (Of course it gets more interesting, the higher the level).
Someone nearby kept commenting on how a goalie had missed the ball, allowing my team to score. "Why would they put that kid in goal? He's terrible. I can't believe he missed that. It was so easy!" This person would NOT let up... talking about a SIX year old. Finally, my dad had had enough. He snapped his head around and said firmly, "That's my SON."
The person was silent the rest of the game.
Of course, that wasn't his son, and in fact, I, his daughter was playing for the other team, but I admire him so much for standing up for that kid.
Next time Granny gets grumpy, tell her she's talking about your child!
