If you have a few weeks before tryouts, be working out and doing cheerleading-specific drills to improve or build skills. Check out skills and drills on here, or many other places online.
If tryouts are within the week:
-SMILE. This is the simplest way to score points and is often overlooked. The essence of cheerleading is being a crowd-pleaser. If you're genuinely having a good time, you will shine, and the judges will enjoy watching you.
-MOTIONS. Practice your motions in front of a mirror (sometimes what feels correct is NOT correct - watch yourself in a mirror)! Motions can improve overnight - another simple way to score points. Basic cheer motions can be found on many websites (google it) if you're new and unfamiliar with them.
-STRETCH. Several times a day. Flexibility can improve within a few days. Before tryouts, stretching will loosen you up to perform to the best of your ability, and can also calm nerves.Good luck!

the main thing i would say to do is to be sharp, smile, be loud, and add your own little flair to your tryouts. these are the qualities that make a goodcheerleader and i think with confidence and a good attitiude you will do great (=
