I am coaching JV and Varsity cheerleading for the first time and would like some advice on tryouts. Scoring, etc?

We don't have to make any cuts just have to choose which to put on JV and which to put on Varsity. I would like to know if anyone has a scoring sheet or any advice to give me on holding tryouts.

When I tried out for the Varsity cheerleading squad at my school, we were scored on how well we knew the cheer, how loud we were, if we were smiling, jumps, and then we were asked 2 questions at the end. My 2 questions were "Why do you want to be a cheerleader?" and "What qualities do you think are the best to look for in a cheerleader?"

    Hope this helped!

I think they should be judged on what was average at their level and what was above average... Say..
    JV-Average jumps,tumbling,facials,stunts
    V-AWESOME jumps,tumbling and stunts
Just tell them they have to have the full package to be in Varsity and it'll make them want it even more.

High School? That's going to be hard work but super super fun. For tryouts, you should maybe give everyone a number, that way no one feels special if you know their name. Maybe put them randomly in groups of 3. Teach a cheer and a dance. Or get someone you know to teach them a dance. Practice jumps. For the actual tryout they could perform the cheer in the group of 3 so all the pressure isn't on them. And they could do jumps, etc. Then you could see who's at varsity level, and who's not. Also keep a chart of different skills the girls have. And how the girls are so you can pick out a captain! Have fun with it! I hope to be a high school cheer coach someday.

When our new cheer coach had first time tryouts we called in a few old coaches and cheerleaders, even a couple of friends that cheered at college to help score them. It went very well!
