Am I too old? To un-flexible?

Okay, so I'm 13 and i'm in eight grade and i've cheered since I was like 5. And I cheer on my middle school team, but we suck. And i'm from a small town so every team i've cheered pretty much sucked comparted to, like, competive teams and bigger schools. But i lovee cheerleading! And I wanted to start doing competive cheerleading, but am I too old ofr it? or too un-flexible? I can do a cartwheel and a round-off, but thats basically it. I want to become more felxible and I would like to take gymnastics, but i've been told i'm too old to start. So am I? And can ya'll please give me some stretches to where I can become more felxible? Thnx!!,, mbh!

Try TV splits! On a commerial lay down put ur bottom 2 the wall and spread out ur legs for the whole commerial break! Also look on youtube for cheer stretches such as scorpians and stuff... DO minor things to equal mayjor like when studying 4 a test sit in a split or when u r watching tv DO A BACKBEND! I wanted to become more flexible too so i went on youtube and looked up sum workouts and stretches I could do and within a week I could do a split!

You are never to old to start doing gymnastics unless you are starting competitive gymnastics for USAG. What you need to to find a gym that has a trampoline and tumbling class or a Cheer tumbling class of some sort. It is best to get help from a professional to help you with you tumbling. Make sure the instructor is a AACCA, USAG, or US All Star safety certified.

The big thing about stretching is first you would need to warm-up the body for at least five minutes such as doing some type of aerobic activity. This helps warms up the muscles, tendon and ligaments due to the increase of blood flow. The reason for this so the tendon and muscles can stretch better. It is hard to stretch when you body is not proerly warmed up and cause injuries. When you stretch, stretch slowly and carefully while you relax. Hold the stretch for at least 10-30 seconds and repeat twice (active stretching). NEVER BOUNCE STRETCH (balastics). You can use a parter to help you stretch but be very careful and do it gently (passive stretching).

    Good luck!

You are not to old. Find a gym that works for you, and that you are comfortable with.

There are many ways to find a team in your local area that can help you train or participate with. The cost will vary from gym to gym. You will need to contact the gym for more details or check out their website.

1.Look in the phone book for cheerleading and gymnastics

2.google search your town and others in your area

3.go to www.USASF.net and look in their database

4.Contact your schools cheerleading coach to find out when try outs are

5.Contact your city's recreation department to see what programs your city offers.

    6. www.usa-gymnastics.org has a data base to search for gymnastics facilities.
