Question
How can I improve my bowling average?
I've been hitting a 100 for the past 2 years, and I really want to get my score up there in the 150's. I currently use a Ebonite Zoom bowling ball, so I only throw straight. If you have any tips on how to start a curve with this type of ball, I'm all ears. By the way, I'm a right handed bowler.

Did you mean improve instead of approve?

yea, he meant improve, and jason all i can say is it takes practice man im not good at bowling but, like my dad said try to hit marks, follow through, dont pressure yourself, if you are hitting your marks and consistently hitting in the same area adjust your starting position move two boards over and if that doesnt work just keep adjusting

I agree with Travis. Practice helps every aspect of any game you play. I have been bowling for years and my family plays a major part in the bowling programs here. I can honestly say experimenting is a great tool with bowling. To start "curving" the ball try standing a few boards left of where you normally stand and keep a really good follow through, and keep really good speed of your ball. Good luck and good bowling!

the thing is if the ball isnt drilled to hook it will not hook much at all, you have to be able to lift your fingers right to add alot of hook to. i asked my dad about that on thursday and he told me not even to worry about the lifting fingers part yet. he told me that i need to be able to control the ball before i start doing that. and if you lift one finger more than the other one it can mess your throw up and it will not do what you want it to. basically what im working on right now is hitting my marks and making sure that the ball goes in the same spot every time i throw it. once i get it to go into the same spot every time i will adjust if it is not hitting the pocket.

Your best bet would be to find a Certified USBC Coach. You know the instruction you'll be getting is trustworthy and effective. That would be the first step if you want your average to improve. I have a coach that I've been with for two years and my average went from 150 to 175. One thing about setting an average goal: Do not expect to jump from 100 to 150 average overnight or even in one league season. Be realistic with your goals.
If what you're seeking is to just have the ball hook more, talk to your local pro shop about changing the surface on your Zoom. One thing that can alter a ball's path down the lane is ball surface. Research how ball surface affects ball reaction. Even if you keep your arm relatively straight, a ball that is properly drilled and sanded can have a real impact on pinfall.

Just keep practicing because your experience level will get higher after you practice alot and then so will your average. I started bowling when I was 3 and my average was only like a 10 and now my average is a 140 after 12 years. All I did was practice and practice any time I could and I bowled on a league whenever they were avalible. I still continue bowling on a league to try to improve my average and practice whenever I can. It will work!

Yes, you need to practice and practice. If you wanna average 150, you will probably wanna get a new, real hooking bowling (if you don't have one already). I'm Left-handed (and proud). my average was a 79 when I started, but as I practiced more from my favorite coach (my daddy) I got an average of 117. It's been half a year since then!
