Tough choice for that age. Keeping it simple will work better, Wishbone or I otherwise I think your offense will go back more often then forward. Its my experiance with kids that young that they can't grasp too much on the offensive side of the ball. My best advice is to build the best Defense you can first they tend to understand that side better and if your not scored on you cant lose. Then run at there defense with fast sweeps misdirection and dives dont waist time passing short pitches and back field blocking are the keys to yardage.

I say try it. My kids did shotgun and worked very well. of course there were some setbacks. but hey we had simple under the center problems too. have confidence that the kids can do it. my kids set up a shotgun formation during halftime. by the end of the season we were running wildcat formations. You do NOT need a very skilled center to run the single wing, in fact, he can actually be one of your weaker players. He needs to be mentally strong more than physically...not easily shaken. I have been coaching single wing offense for 3 years and it is by far the best system for teaching youth football. Dave Cisar has a great book and many DVD's he sells that go into great detail of the system. Go to winningyouthfootball.com and check it out.
