    Morgan,
You are likely doing the wrong kind of exercise. Concentrate on aerobic conditioning, i.e., running or swimming for distance. Combine your aerobic workouts with calorie reduction. Drink plenty of fluids.

I would recommend circuit training combined with cardio. It keeps your body guessing and therefore challenges your muscles to work harder.

Both of the answers above may be right, but here's my two-cents...

Forget about weight altogether. Muscle weighs more than fat and if you're really building muscle, weight loss may not be in the cards for awhile. Since, most body fat is burned only in the large muscles of your backside, thighs and core, you may want to focus the starting point of your excercise program on building those muscles and using them heavily to burn up fat, once they're developed.

The aerobic exercises like biking, running, walking, jumping rope, etc. all work those large and core muscles heavily, which will eventually burn fat. Remember that we all have our own genetic dispositions and body types, so toning muscle and reducing fat should be your realistic goals.

My advice is to work your core and large muscle groups as much as possible. Reduce the garbage calories in your diet (candy, pop and complex carbs are the easy place to start,) and drink plenty of water to reduce the urge to eat when all your body needs is the water.

    Good Luck!

    great answer Kraig..

Large muscle groups are great to work as well as the core, which is made up of 30 muscles, but I would caution on working those groups only. Simply, because the body needs to be balanced both anterior (front) and posterior (back). If we focus on a limited area, we can cause injuries throughout our body due to being very week in one area and stronger on the opposite end. Hopefully, that makes sense :)

The best way to get results is with Interval Training. here is an article I wrote on the subject:

Tricia, you are so right on about Circuit Training..:)

One thing not thought of is 'rest'. REST is the BEST when it comes to results. Please allow at 2 days a week to rest if not 3. The goal is to increase your metabolism in turn burning fat and calories at rest. When one works out like crazy with very little rest, it is very hard to crank up that metabolism...;)

I know this was posted awhile ago, but hope it still helps.
