Leeandra,
If by "other places" you mean private teams or clubs, the answer depends on the quality of your middle school program. Usually travel teams and clubs are much more structured, teach higher levels of skills, and are generally more demanding. -
I also was puzzled by your question. Middle school programs are very different, based on where you play in the country. Some middle schools do not allow for their players to play on any other teams, for fear of injury or becoming worn down. However, the coaches of other teams expect the exact same thing that they should expect and that 100% effort. If you play on two teams, you have to be able to give maximum effort to both programs. If you cannot do that, then you should decide which team is better for your softball career and which helps you out more.

Leeandra,
At our middle school, in Irvine, CA, we don't have an after school sports program. It truly does depend on the school district. -
Got it. When I was in middle school, in CT, middle school sports were pretty competetive. It is difficult to make the team, depending on how many people show up and what their skill level is. We had cuts in our programs, because we had some very skilled players and too many people tried out for the roster space.
