PROGRESSION! have your mom or dad, someone each night help push you down (not all the way) just a tad bit further than the night before. If you are sore at first, stay at the 'same' level before pushing yourself further. Don't resist the push and you should never be 'in tears'...hold for 15 seconds and repeat 3-4 times each night.

If you have your split almost flat, then try holding your split for either the commercials of a TV show, or if you want to get it faster and don't mind the pain, hold it during the actual show and use the commercials to take a break. By watching TV while in your split, you take your mind off of it and sometimes even forget about it!

This might not be the best answer. But I have all my splits, and what helped me to get them fast is to go down as far as you can and then I got my 40 pound sister to sit on my back. My right split took a little more work though, and the more I pushed myself to go further the easier it got.

there's some good techniques on youtube..also research pilates for loosening up the hip flexors..use your own body weight at first until you get someone who is experienced with manual stretching..warm up stretches are a must..if you really want a good split you have to lower yourself in each position as far as you can stand and hold it start out with 10 seconds and increase until 45 seconds..remember left, right, and middle splits..until you become more flexible, when doing your middle splits, bend at the knee like a frog of sorts so that you don't injure your knees..rest on your elbows until you can get down to your stomach..also when in your left and right splits try reaching back and pulling the back leg forward..i also recommend yoga for overall flexibility
