Question
I am coaching a kids cheerleading squad, and i need activites to do.
The age group is preschool to fifth grade. Instead of just doing cheerleading all the way through I need some ideas on what to do in between lessons and such.

do "simon says" but instead of random stuff, call out arm motions.
its fun but it helps them practice too! -
The best thing that we've done for our little ones was take away "conditioning" and make it fun "stretching", our jumping jacks are High-V's then Clean position as they do and 8 count. It takes care of alot of things and they didn't even know it. Make them keep their Hi-V's and clean position "tight" and "hard". rewards to those who keep them cleaner. We do this with 5-7 year olds and they think it's cool and fun not cardio (which is way important.
Cartwheel race, relay somersaults, then hit a junp (T-jump's are easy enough). Before you do any of this...research the proper technique if you don't have cheer experience because you can look flawless by teaching them after seeing it over a few times.
Go to Varsity.com and cheerwiz.com, I get plenty of help there.

A really fun game to play is a game called Cheerio. Everyone gets in a circle then one person gets in the middle. The people making a circle start chanting, "Cheer, Cheer, Rio, Hey (name of person in middle) Let me see your cheerio. person in middle, " Cheer What" circle " your cheerio" in middle " my hands are high my feet are low and this is how I cheerio. (insert dance move) people making circle copy his/her dance move

wow! please tell me that they will be broken into age groups??? if not, good luck to you..lol...I own a gym, so I know first hand that the ages are going to need to be broken up. Your little ones will require a lot of focus and they may need a lot of personalized attention. I would suggest to make a dice box for your little ones- I did this years ago and the kid's loved it. Get a box, paint it white and paint your agend (each side says something cheer related): jump, motions, thigh stands etc...stuff like that. At each practice, allow each girl to roll the dice- they feel special and like to work on the objectives since they had a role in the decision. For your older ones, It may help to 'reward' positive effort to this age group...something I will be trying soon, is giving a leadership role in class the following practice you have, so, that they may be able to assist you. Having them stand up in front of the class to help with jump drills, routines etc... I'll tell you how it works out. But, don't be afraid to give the same girl the role over and over again IF she fairly earned it- someone will eventually step up to claim their prize.

In cheerleading, occaisionally on the off season, we'll play a game called lovers leap, to play this you need a partner and one is smaller, there are different things the coaches call and then you do them.
ex. lovers leap, the smaller person jumps into your arms
bunkbeads one person lays on the floor small person grabs ankels
teepee
doggie in a dog house one person all 4s then dog under neath them
you can make up so more or have the group to get out first make up some
you gat out by being the last group to get up -
i thing doing the motion drill

YOU COULD DO A JUMPING DRILL THAT i DID FOR A WARM UP DRILL FOR TRY OUTS. YOU WILL HAVE A GIRL JUMP AND DO A MOVE OR A SPREAD AND THEN HAVE ANOTHER GIRL REPEAT IF THAT GIRL DOES NOT DO IT RIGHT SHES OUT OR GETS PENTILIZED.

Well a fun game is to have a little compatition! Split into the girls into teams and each team makes a cheer, your the coach, you will be judge, each team preforms their cheer and say who comes 1st 2nd 3rd and so on, also say why. It does sound kind of boring but is actually very fun~ this same game for dancing, singing etc.
