You can't make a shot unless you take one. Keep shooting. Take a ball out to the hoop often and shoot for an hour or so. You will get better and better. Copy good shooters form and shots. Dribbling is hard to do for most kids, but you can learn to dribble like Steve Nash or Pistol Pete Maravich or Jason Kidd. Spending time with the basketball in your hands and dribbling with left and right hands everywhere you go will improve your confidence on the court. When on the court push yourself to dribble more before game time. Confidence in your sport usually comes from doing the things required by your sport over and over and over again thousands of times, and seeing improvements. Don't quit.

    1. You should start out taking shots from 2 - 3 feet from the basket. After taking 15 or 20 shots and making at least half of them move to another spot from the same distance. Continue this until you are making almost every shot. Whean you have made at least 50 shots move back two feet and do the same. As you make more and more you will see that it is becoming automatic - keep doing this every day. Take at least 500 shots a day and always shoot exactly the same way every time. No one makes every shot and the best scorers take a lot of shots and miss a lot but they don't lack the confidence to take that shot.

Repetition is key and you must take shots in games. Don't worry if you miss - that's why they have rebounders. So many players make a career on getting rebounds so don't be bashful or worry about missing - take the shot and keep shooting. As for dribbling - there are several drills on WePlay which you can use. Practice, practice, practice!

You have to love the game.

Stop wasting time and just go for it if you miss you miss everyone misses. If you make a bad pass just forget about it and go still the ball back dont stop ever, no one is perfect so keep getting better and forget what other people might think of you just play hard.

me I've had this problem lots of times the only way to over come it is trust your self and know your strengths and weaknesses. the shot will come. everyone misses a shot, were not ray Allen yet lol. If your scared about dribbling then you just work on them till you feel comfortable enough to come down the court and shake someone.

It's important for you to at least give it a try first. So what if you miss the shot or dribble the ball wrong...even great athletes started the same way. The only difference is that they got people who trained and helped them out when they were starting, and that they persevered. Success, like winning...it's not like you wake up one day and it happened. You have to work your way into it by putting in dedication, passion and hardwork.
But hey, when all else fails just remember that there are other careers out there and it's free to dream as big as you want. Enjoy life and have fun...take it easy!

just like everybody else said just keep shooting. if you never try then you'll always miss. when your at home you can do some drills like shooting in the same spot over n over again then trying to go back n keep shooting..... n another way for dribbling is going out n dribble... you can get better n better every second you have the ball....

It's like life - If your afraid to die you will never truly live. Practice shooting close to the rim and as your confidence increases start increasing the range of your shots. We all had to learn how to crawl, and walk before we could run with it. Good Luck.

everybody misses. Even the best NBA player may miss half of his shots. Just practice shooting and dribbling. As you get better, the confidence should come.

Quite and try something else, if you are not confident, then stop doing it. No
matter what anyone on here says, if you dont feel confident, all the words in the
world cant help you but you....So if your afraid of losing the ball then stop dribbling,
and if your afraid of shooting cause you think youre going to miss stop shooting.
Become and passer.......................... and watch as the world passes you by......

I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.
    -Michael Jordan

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Shooting is mental as well is it physical
Good shooters miss a shot figure out what they did and they think im gonna make the next 1

bad shooters miss a shot and i dont know i f i should shoot any more

also muscle memory reps build muscle memory
Become a good shooter takes practice (alot)

As for dribbling i tell you how i became a good dribbler (im a post and im one of the best dribblers on my team) I was always going places with my basketball if i was gonna walk down to the store id grab my ball a dribble there

Most NBA stars are under 50% on their shots (Unless you play for the Magics!), and many lose the ball. Things just happen.
