i would like to make the fresman varsity cheerleading squad next year any tips???

my coaches are very strict about who they put on the squad and pretty much the only way 2 make it as a freshman is tumbling. i am working on my back handspring and will probably have it very soon but i waz wondering how i could make my jumps go way higher even though they are already pretty nice and to fly and have sharper and better motions. any suggestions??? i am 5 4 and normally anywhere from 134 to 140. plz help this means a lot 2 me. i also just made the squad as an eighth grader for the first time and have only around 8 months to get better. lol

Practice your jumps in the swimming pool. The water builds resistence, but is still safe for your ankles. When you get out of the pool, you will notice a difference, since you won't have that resistence anymore. As for motions -- practice in the mirror. Make sure each motion is picture perfect. Practice it as if someone is taking a picture on each hit...you should snap where the camera would be flashing. If you are going to fly, you need to practice on a balance ball, and use resistance bands. You can find them on most cheer supply sites.

    Good luck!

ok what i say u do for u jumps are to get like put ur hands on the arm rest of ur couch and do ur toe touches n herliders n herkies n jumps like that. it helpd me ALOT if u do it daily. and my jumps are mid way now but im still workin on them! so if u just do that and be really really really tight and fly good u should make it. oh...and trying out for a high school team isnt EASY! im gona tell u that now...because i did it my freshman yr and diddnt make it...but if u dont make it u should do competitive cheer because it helps get u prepared for try outs nxt yr n high school. (IF U DONT MAKE IT)
but u should do really good...and sorry for talking so much

if you are going to be a freshmen, then you can't be on the varsity tem, there is a
freshmen team and when you are in 10 you can try out for varsity. But if you want
to get sharper movements you should PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!! Also, i tried out as a freshmen and i didn't make it because I couldn't tumble like the other girls. So make sure you can tumble!! Also smile ALL THE TIME!! And one of the most important
thing is to make sure to point your toes on your jumps!!!! The judges are crazy about pointed toes!! Also, don't be boring with your outfit and do the school colors. The judges look for a unique outfits!! and make sure your whole group matches!!

Make sure that you look totally committed to being on the squad. Being a freshman is hard but sometimes it's the little things that count. Come looking clean and fresh. minimize your makeup and wear solid colors with a tight pony tail. As for the cheerleading part, just practice everything every chance you get. In front of the mirror, off the diving board, in the mall. Once you've got it all down, work on cleaning it to perfection an that should do you good girl! Good Luck!!!! :)

    hey,
the big thing that will help you is practice practice practice. make sure you at least jump for 15 minutes everyday. also you have to excercise. you should try to run as much as you can but if you can't do more than a mile make sure you walk if you can't run. so with a combination of running and walking you should go at least a mile and a half. another thing you can do its lifting weights or anything. im a freshman, and im only 5 ' 3" and this year i actually made varsity (which is very hard at my school) anyways, i just did this everyday and it made me a lot better cheerleader. (: so hopefully this helps you . and let me know how your tryouts go ! goodluck!!

hey. my advice to you if practice practice practice!. more than anything smile, be sharp, and hit all your motions! i made the mistake and messed up my cheer during tryouts but i just smiled and jumped right back in and i still made my high schol team!! Also definately workout! because you definately need the muscles to do good jumps! i dont know what your schools requirements are for varsity but for my high school in order to make varsity you also had to have a back hand spring.
i hope some of this helps you. Good Luck from one cheerleader to another!

Practice Your Motions In The Mirror. As Often As You Can. Be Very Tight & Make Sure You Have Good Body Lining. No Broken Wrist. Your Motions Should Look Like A Straight Line. Stretch If You Can Everyday. The More You Stretch, The More Flexible You Get, The Better Your Jumps Are Going To Get. Practice Your Jumps In Front Of Someone Or The Mirror. Make Sure Your Toes Are Always Pointed & Your Chest Should Always Be Up As Well As Your Head. If You Wanna Be Better At Tumbling Or Want To Start. Practice Your Cartwheels. They Are The Base Of Everything. Make Sure You Can Do A Cartwheel On A Straight Line & End Up With A Good Body Angle. Be Always On Your Best Behavior With The Old Girls, They Will Tell On You. & Always Smile, Be The Most Positive That You Can Be About Yourself. & Most Diffidently Dont Be Shy. You Can Do It. :D

    1. BE CONFIDENT! Pretend you are the best girl or boy there and that there isn't a chance that you won't make it.
    2. Wear a t-shirt, soffes(thigh high shorts), and tennis shoes. For your hair, pull it into a ponytail, leaving no bangs hanging out.
    3. Ask questions if you can't get part of the routine (if you are being taught one), coaches will see that you aren't shy and you are a hard worker.
    4. Practice the routine, and ask older girls about their first try out experiences.
    5. Be very outgoing and talk to other girls trying out, the coach will see that you are confident and that your team (to be!) matters to you.
    6. As you go into the tryout, yell your teams name with a lot of spirit, jump up and down and do a high kick with a high V, smile and show the coach that your routine is going to hit!
    7. If you mess up, DON'T STOP!! Just keep doing cheer moves if you forget the routine and try to do some cheer jumps - never make it apparent that you messed up.
    8. Before you find out if you make it, think positive as if your routine was picture perfect.
    9. Don't be discouraged if you don't make it - there's always next time!

Hey I'm a softmore at my school and i made varsity the last two years in a row... the best things to do is:

    1. stretch everyday and look for new ways to stretch... arms, legs and even your back you don't want to injure anything...

    2. do frogs... they are really good for your JUMPS! (if you dont know what they are here's how you do it: sit in a squat with your knee caps inside your arms... bonce your booty and then jump into a toe touch... then land in oothe same position you started in... do this over and you should feel the burn)

    3. lift wieghts... not large ones just enough to tone your body... i don't know about your school but my school stunts on side-line football and being strong as a fly-er and a base helps...and this would be a prep for competitive season...

    4. when you practice your motions act like there's a rubber-band holding you tight... try having someone push on your arms while you hold your motions resist their push...

    5. when you tryout look clean and bright... smile!

    6. be load and proud....

    7. if you can bring something new to tryouts a new trick or multiple little ones... something that will help you stand out from the crowd

    8. if you don't get something ask for help... even if you don't learn something as fast as the other girls the coach will appreciate your patients... also help the other girls...

    9. have fun... enjoy yourself and the girls around you

    10. keep hydrated you'll feel more energetic...

    11. don't lose your cool... its easy when you do things over and over again to get annoyed try to keep a smile on your face...

    12. practice everything over and over and over again... also don't think about them to much your more likely to mess up if you over think it... and when you do mess up don't make it a big deal just keep going...

    13. you might not start out in the positions that you want but work with what the coach gives you and be happy....

hopefully those few things help if you want more details on stretches and motions and things you can do just e-mail me on my weplay page....

im a freshman and i made the varsity cheer squad. i recommend...work on your toe touch and if the cheer squad is going to do compition then defenetally make sure that all of your jumps are absolutally perfect. a good way to get in shape is go to wal-mart and get some cheap ankle weights dont go more then 10 pounds but more then 2 pounds. it is handy if you are able to learn cheers fast so maybe have someone make up a dance and you then have to reapeat it...it is good practice. I HOPE YOU MAKE IT...ITS WORTH IT!!!
