    Marli,
Assuming that your surgery is for a torn meniscus or damaged ligament, you will need to discuss this question with your surgeon or physical therapist. You'll need to watch your diet and maybe focus on your mental training, possibly studying the academics of the game at the same time. Free throw shooting shouldn't be a problem, just be careful not to push it (your physical activity) too hard too soon.
    Good luck and good healing!

You need to work hard on the core. There are several good core and knee injury prevention articles at www.youthfitnessmag.com You can find them under training and injury prevention I believe. Good luck

The one thing you must do is not aggravate the knee. You don't want to get the surgery and then push yourself too soon and then end up being that much further behind. As Mr Houston stated, watching what you eat and preparing yourself mentally. The most important thing is to listen to your body and your doctor. He will give you your physical therapy regime, but your body will tell you when you are ready to work that knee. Do everything they say. I had my knee operated on, quite a few years ago and I did exactly what they said and I was playing ball in just a few short months. Yes I wasn't as fast and quick at first, but my body caught on quickly.

    Good luck!

oh goodness. uuummm my sister was the same way. she got knee surgrey but before she did she was the fastest runner at our school(SHE WAS PURTY FAST!!!) but then she got her knee done and it slowed her down BIGtime! but you'll just have to keep working out like to an hour to 30 min. a day. but it will be hard!!!! but don't work out that much when you get down with your surgrey nuh uh,not good! let it heal first and work with your knee as much as you can. don't push your self too hard. but keep in mind your knee will hurt you every once in a while. but that's just life. good luck and if you ever need me,i been through it with my sister and she just love's sport's to death! =) im here for you just write me up! bye.

Swimming for sure. I had osgood schlauter (sp) and I was supposed to do basketball less than a month later. I started swimming laps and burned fat and got in shape. It's the best way to get in shape without any pain.
