sled work ... set goals as to why they would want to push and work hard when the back get's all the glory... Set up glory days for them like treats or pins to go onto their hoodies... Take them up to the press box with a pair of field glasses and let them notice what's going on down on the field for a min. or 2... Then inform them that that's the view their parents and all see during a contest...
