Thank you, congrats and welcome to coaching soccer! Here's a few ideas to consider as time allows.
-Although watching soccer will give you a picture of what the final outcome looks like, consider a person wanting to learn how a movie is made, and goes watches a movie to learn. They'll see a good movie, but they aren't going to learn a whole lot about the process that got them to that point.

Please take some time to review the following links to get you started.
    www.utahyouthsoccer.net/tt_best_practices.pdf
    www.elitesoccerconditioning.com/CoachingSoccer/coachingFAQ.htm
-Pick a subject for the day: passing and receiving, dribbling, finishing, sheilding, etc., then plan a progression of activities to build that topic.
    -Avoid laps, lines and lectures.
-Keep it fun and challenging and they will learn.

Both of the above sites offer good games and activities to keep you busy.
www.soccerxpert.com/ has several good ideas for age appropriate goodies.
-You might also check with your club to see if they offer coaching clinics. A U6-U10 clinic is inexpensive, but worth every cent.
Please don't think I'm asking you to not go watch a game, but to also check out the above suggestions to get you going. Coming from a relatively new coach with a background as a player, I promise you and your kids will benefit from these sites and a clinic or two.

    Have fun,
    Ken

    Connie,
You could also try to contact your local soccer club. Ask if you could come out to a few of their practices. Get to know the coaches and they may volunteer to go to one of your practices.

    1. Great idea! I just had a guest coach come out last week and have another from our district coming out next week. It's a great resource and it's free. The level of instruction has been great and both the kids and I have a blast when they come. We offer a gift card as a small thanks.

Check around to local clubs - sometimes they offer coaches clinics; or if you can't find it on your local clubs, check your state org. they may have links for you to connect to!

    Good Luck!!
