In my experience I've have seen that the best way to get somebody to do something is leading by example. I wanted my daughters to run so, I started running and I asked them if the could join me. I also told them that it was good help them with their endurance. And explained to them what endurance was. They run on and off but now I don't have to tell them. Just an idea, I hope something related to this works for you.

Thanks for the feedback. I run 2-3 times a week and have run with my son in the past. I don't try to over-do it, since I know it needs to be fun for him (he's 11). Hopefully, as he matures, he'll fall into it. He's got a great stride and I think it would be something really good for him (I love to run, myself!!). Thanks again!!

Make Running & exercise Fun.Don't just Say you need to run.Make up a game to go along with it.You could also run with them.I do this with my youth Football players. It helps Because they don't really feel like their exercising, their just having fun and getting exercise at the same time.

There's actually this really cool ting, its called Nike Plus. You've probably heard of it.
But it has a sensor that goes into your Nike Plus enabled shoe (or you can just secure it manually to another running shoe) and then get a Nike Plus sensor to go with an iPod. As you run, Nike+ tells you your distance, speed and time. You can even choose a Powersong, which you can instantly play when you feel weakened.

The best part is, when you plug your iPod into the computer via USB cable, iTunes automatically sends the data to the Nike+ website. On said website, there are challenges such as: Fastest 5K, most miles run Male vs Female, USA vs UK, State vs State, etc. This is what motivated me to run, especially the individual challenges.

The package, with the shoe sensor and the iPod plug-in is about $40. Nike+ shoes are the same if not cheaper than other running shoes (but most likely not as high qualityas Brooks, Saucony or Mizuno, for example)

i know someone who needs to run by doesnt do it unfortunately!..

Tell your son to just start off slowly and see how his body feels after 15 minutes.. Dont push him too much otherwise he will become stubborn and wont listen to you.. iam a runner myself and i could easily run 4 miles now ..there was a time when i couldnt even do 15 minutes at first without gasping... so the key is to start off slowly and make him realize how his body will feel afterwards.....it will take a month to see good results but tell him to repeat this motivational line when hes running ...it worked for me " Todays pains are tomorrows gains"!!...Good luck :)

A lot of kids don't like to run, I do. I started playing basketball in 3rd grade and since you have to run in basketball I started liking to run. I would get him interested in sports such as track or basketball or soccer.

To motivate ur son to start running, try saying something like if he runs half a mile, you'll buy him a doughnut or something. That's the key, if u want him to start running make him try for an award. And for u to start just start out slow maybe running at a track or a treadmill and go faster and u get
