Hi Fred,
You might want to check out the collection of Skills and Drills we've put together here on Weplay.http://www.weplay.com/youth-soccer/drills
You can also find more drills/skills from each of our featured partners on their own websites once you dig in and find what works best for you.
Good luck this season! -
Yes Thank you Matt. I am actually doing that immediately. just trying specifically to see an example of first practice formats. I guess simply, intro's, warm-ups, drills , and announcements. Just a bit nervous as a first timer coaching soccer. Thank you for the attention to my question Matt.

I think you will find this audio very useful.
http://lagoamedia.com/coachingyoungcouchpotatoes.com/landing/Go listen to it. It has a lot of useful information for soccer coaches.

for your goalies you could probably have them in the net and let the other kids take shots so your goaly could practice diving and such, and SCRIMAGES are a really good way of practicing, the kids could play aganst each other and be competitive, and if you see any mistakes, STOP the scrimage and tell them what they did wrong and what you want to see the next time they are in that situation. and I fount this cool website that might be very usefull =) :http://www.soccerhelp.com/Soccer_Drills.shtml

6-8 years old??? ... The game is the teacher , fun is the product... dont be nervous be fun , if you are not the most adept player then celebrate the learning with the kids they dont know what you dint know ... and if there is a parent who wants to be a knowitall make them your demo player... Later in life you can add structure , I would recommend reading the canadian development plan at : http://www.canadiansportforlife.ca/ and keep in mind something a youth coach mentor (who was our USSF A level director) "Drills Kills Skills" and avoid the three evil L's Laps Lectures and Lines ... and the game does the rest

hey there Fred.
there are a number of free sites out there -- you may want to give www.soccerinteractive.com a try -- it has been free for a while and it has some great video and animations! -
IMHO, you can't find a better free site than footy4kids:
Especially:

sorry i hate the word drills. when i coached at this level, we would split up into two groups, do skills work for @ 15 minutes and scrimmage each other using rules that i made up like so many passes before you shoot, rotating positions, and taking time for learning proper positions and staying in them. what you lack in skill you will make up in conditioning. if you let them play in practice, they don't realize what great shape they are in until they run circles around the team that did all the drills.
-
HI Fred, i think you should do scrimages and you can look up on soccer.com then type in a little box say drills or something and it will come up on the screen a book about drills. or just think of something.
-
i would say...maybe try asking some of the kids if they have been on a soccer team before and maybe asking if they know and tips and drills cause then you are both learning from eachother...kid to coach and coach to kid

The best two sites are as follows.
1) http://www.Footy4kids.co.uk which offers a ton of free resources for coaches at all levels.
2) If you want to be a better trainer and teach technial skills then I would look at http://www.socceru.com
Footy4kids has a ton of resources, plans and tips.
Socceru is a paid DVD set that covers raw tech training.
I have used the SoccerU for many of our coaches that didn't grow up playing the game. You can't teach a skill to others if you don't learn it first. -
http://www.weplay.com/youth-soccer/drills
It will teach you drills and different skills to use and also to teach.
-
look it up on the computer
-
soccer tips.com
-
soccer101.com
-
If you are coaching for club, i would gladly come and run some free coaches clinics so you can see the drills first hand!
-
There are alot of great sites out there with really great soccer tips.
www.bookmakers-code.net -
what you should really do is go to a book store buy a book on coaching
-
sportskool.com and click on soccer.
-
What you need to do is play a scrimage and see what they need some work on then work on those drills
-
I might be a bit biased but my site: www.footykids.co.uk is definitely worth a look!
-
wooops....I meant www.footy4kids.co.uk !
