stay focus never wonder while in the game and learn from others thats in a higher level in other words watch a better player play his or hers defense so you can learn from it

I try to teach my players a few simple rules: 1. never give up the middle (this forces your defender into help defense) and allows the baselines and sidelines to ineffect become extra defenders. 2. challenge every shot ( menaing get a hand up without fouling) 3. box-out, so you dont have to repeat the process again

foot speed also practice staying in defensive position example put a time on a timer start it and stay in it till the timer runs out. increases as you feel you need. Also the biggest thing i can tell any 1 whos trying to become a beter defender is

jump in the direction of the pass!!!

it helps also there are difensive drills you can do by your self example take a ball and bounce it at an angle off the wall slide in difensive position to catch it. you can adjust the angle so it goes farther,

    good luck with your defense
