How do I get my running back to run hard?

I have fast and fairly large running backs for third grade tackle football but they will not run hard to the hole. When they play defense (linebacker) they hit like mad men!

well your running backs might not want to be offensive players they might enjoy defense so u should let them play defense and try to find new running backs

Had that problem with my son found..out he didn't want to run the ball. He wanted to do the hitting..if thats not the problem..have two coaches with pads..stand on both sides creating a whole for your back to run through have him take the handoff go through the whole protecting the ball make it a game- time it see which back hits the whole the fastest.who can get two yards for the touchdown..etc.have the coaches lightly bump them when they run through..get them use to feeling contact

    Tracy,

I watch several pro running backs and even really good high school running backs and it doesn't look like they are running hard and they aren't. Sometimes RB's can't run hard, they have to run at a speed where they can read then react. Some of the best running backs take their time looking for holes, then when they are open, they open it up. So maybe evaluate if they are reading where to go. Good luck... By the way TJ Duckett RB for Seahawks is free to answer questions on the member section of www.youthfitnessmag.com
