How do i get my d-lineman to keep there eyes in the back field and not on the man blocking them ...any good drills out there

One big problem i was having last year was my d-line would get good penitration but the ball carrier would fly past them they were focused on the guy blocking them and not keeping there eyes beyond him watching for the ball!!!! Any good drills out there to get them to focus on keeping there eyes in the backfield looking for the ball ????

We have used a couple of drill to accomplish this...the best one I have is to have your d'lineman , a lineman(blocker) and a back in the backfield about 3-4 yards deep. You stand behind the d-line and give a direction to the back. On command, the ball is snapped, given to the back and he runs in the direction you've indicated. The d-lineman is to see and contact or tackle. Reset with new players and continue. ( Not more than 5 reps each/day). The object is to see and engage the o-line then shift eyes to the back once engaging the o-line.

The drill that Mr. Braun described is one I use, another is to lay the linemen on
their backs with the helmets about two inches from each other, blow the whistle
and toss your back the ball and let him pick his side. Remember to remind proper
balance and heads up, also teaching how to disengage/shedding to get to the ball
carrier is important, you need at least five different moves so they don't get used to
the same moves everytime. Good Luck.
