it helps to have a strong, coordinated spotter..... once you get a good spotter always fall backwards (if you can) and i guaranty youll almost always be caught

The best spotters will be at gymnastics clubs. However, a really good one is hard to find. Yes you must trust them that is for sure, plus, they must be confident when they spot. If you go to a club watch some of the spotters spot. If they tend to turn their head, reach far out to spot, or stand at a full arms length or farther when they spot they are not confident spotters.
Personally, when tumbling, I would spot by standing almost right in front of the gymnast as they ran toward me to tumble. I would then move to their side as they got closer and would move with them down the tumbling matt as I spotted. They were no more then one foot away from me. In this position I have the strength to help them and keep them safe because they are close to the center of my body - my center of gravity.
I would risk life and limb to make sure they were safe - ALWAYS!!! You find a spotter that carries that type of attitude and you have a good spotter.

There are many ways to find a team in your local area.
1.Look in the phone book for cheerleading and gymnastics
2.google search your town and others in your area
3.go to www.USASF.net and look in there database
4.Contact your schools cheerleading coach to find out when try outs are
5.Contact your city's recreation department to see what programs your city offers.
