Have you even run a league before? I have run many Junior Gold Travel Leagues and tournaments. Let me know more specifically where you have questions and I'll see what I can do to assist.

    1. have ran adult leagues before and been very active with youth bowling leagues. This is our towns first ever Jr. Gold league. I have researched the basic requirements. Am I correct that all bowlers must have either a sport sanction or Jr. Gold? This league is going to be in one house, not traveling...that is not a problem correct? Being Jr. Gold are they required to wear the collared shirts or is that up to the League director? My biggest concern is setting up the league rules, any samples you could share?

Can you tell I am new to we play....

    Trish:
Setting up the league is not hard, though there are a number of things you need to make sure are done. Check out this link on bowl.com to the Junior Gold page. There you will find a handbook which explains the parameters in rulling either a Junior Gold League or Tournament.

I'll check my files for electronic copies of rules I've used previously. My rules tend to be a bit elaborate, from experience, since there are always bowlers looking for loop holes in the rules.

As long as you meet the Junior Gold Program requirements for running the league and don't violate any USBC rules, you'll be all set. Sounds like you already have experience with youth leagues so this won't be much different.

Don't forget the 2009-2010 rules now allow girls who average 150 or higher to compete. All bowlers should be Junior Gold members but if not only league bowlers who are Junior Gold members will count towards your winner 'ratio'.

I don't want to overload you with information, I'll check my files and send you some stuff that should help you out.

    Trish:
The Junior Gold leagues I ran were singles events though there were 4 bowlers bowling per lane. I have yet to run a multiple player team Gold League. To me, since Gold is a singles event it was important to mimic the situation as much as possible.

At worst, I think I could upload the rules to my weplay page and you could download it from there. Let me know then I'll post it.

    Thanks.

    1. That would be great, it will give me a guideline to make sure I don't forget anything important.

    2. Ok digging deeper reread the rules on league and I have specific questions. I plan on having a 3 part league each 12 weeks (36 required games) Advancement for league is 1/10 or league champions.

What is the minimum number of girls I have to have in order to separate them into their own division 4 or 10?

Can I advance one league champion from each 12 week session or will I need to certify each league separately?

It states two weeks prior to the start of the event I must submit a roster...does this mean I have to get them signed up at least two weeks prior to starting the league?

    Trish:
I'll post 2 sets of rules, one for a league that bowls 3 games/week and another that bowls 6 games/week on my Junior Gold Qualifying events page. Anyone can sign up for this page.

Suggest you write in language that allows you to establish a separate Girls league should you get enough of them to bowl. You also need to decide if you are running a Gold Event or Gold Premier Event. A Premier event offers the bowler something in addition to entry spot in the National Championships, such as reimbursement for travel expenses. Emphasis is on reimbursement.

I have even secured sponsors for my leagues to help them become Premier Events. I've also had league shirts made up with bowler name, league name, and sponsor logos.

Believe it's best for you to submit 3 Gold league forms since you will, in fact, be running 3 leagues. Since you'll be running 3 leagues, should not be a problem to advance champion only from each league.

You should also consider running Gold qualifying tournament(s). If you look at my Junior Gold Qualifying event page I'm running a qualifier on Aug 16. There you can see the format and rules I've been using for a tournament qualifier.

In theory that's would be great, but it's generally not practicable. I'm not sure I've ever done that in the past. I believe the National Office may want to spot check to be sure you have the required number of Junior Gold members participating.

Be sure to buy enough spots, minimum 1, with each league. If you need more because of number of bowlers participating be sure to continuously monitor the bow.com web site to be sure spots remain available. Typically all spots are purchased by Jan-Feb for the tournament to be held in July.

Also, give consideration to be sure you don't have 'extra' money and if so have a plan to give out scholarship money. Youth events are expected to be 'non-profit' events.

You should also consider offering scholarship brackets during league play. One season we issued almost $12,000 in scholarship money.

OK, don't want to overload you... so maybe you can start with this stuff

    1. First let me say, you can not overload me. I feel privileged that you will share your expertise with me. Our local association has never put this much attention into our youth and I am trying to play the role without any guideance. So I am super glad I joined weplay.

Secondly, I ran my first Jr. Gold tournament last year...got my feet wet and learned alot the hard way. I am trying to become more informed before I take this leap. I also learned alot by taking my son to other Jr. Gold tournaments outside of our area.

With the information you provided I have another question. I am planning on charging enough to cover the spot and also trying to secure sponsors. So should I list this as a premier event in case I have a 1.00 profit? I am running this through our youth national club which sent 22 kids to the open last year and 36 kids to the open this year. Our club also intends to help cover expenses for the Jr. gold winners of this area,we would just be sponsoring them right

I've uploaded the files (Jul 25). They are all PDF so you should be able to open and view them. Let me know when you've downloaded them so I can then remove them from the page.

    Thanks.
