as a football coach for 6-8 year olds I can tell you that keeping it simple works however my kids know well over 65 different plays that we have developed and they run each one to perfection it is all about the skill players you have and there knowledge of the game

Coach to the level of your players. The more they know and grasp the better. Teach them the same plays out of different formations. When I coached a young age I had a K.I.S.S. method. Keep it simple stupid!
Good luck. -
3 plays executed well is better than 10 junk plays period. We won a championship with 5 Off plays 2 Def plays in the same age group. If the player is confident in their responsibilty that's unbeatable!

I don't think it is the number of plays, or even WHAT plays... it is all about executing the plays correctly. If you have to be specific, then have one inside, one off tackle, and one wide running play and do both left and right... the key thing is, EXECUTE! Same goes for defense... select a base defense and a short yardage defense... that is plenty enough at this age level. It depends on the players knowing what to do, and then doing it!

You gotta scout your team you are about to play and add different variations off your existing plays. We start out with 12 plays and spin off of that, we will have 50 plays by the end of the season. Do not limit yourself on defense. Run several schemes off the same defense.
