Batting is a lot about hand eye coordination. Kids naturally like picking up things and swinging them. If your son is big enough to lift and swing the bat without falling over, let him hit off the tee. As he gets older, do some underhand soft toss to him. I'm also a huge fan of fundamentals so that when he is old enough to "get it," you should be showing him a proper stance. At any age, he can learn how to swing level and not swinging upward or downward.

Tiger Woods was playing golf at 3, so like Mark says, if he can stand on his/her own, then let them at it.

If you make learning fun, age doesn't matter much.

Tiger Wood's Dad never pushed Tiger to play golf. He'd ask him if he'd like to play golf and when he said yes they did, when he said no they didn't.

I agree with Coach Moore, young children do have a great capacity for learning new things. However, at the younger ages it is imperative learning is made fun.
