Question
Tournament bracket process - determining seeding???
I'm new to the whole tournament thing and I don't understand the process. They decide the bracket by the following criteria:
1. Pool play record
2. Tie: a. Head to Head, b. Total Runs Allowed, c. coin flip
Do they take the pool record and put a losing team against a winning team or two losing teams together? Not sure how that works.
What is a head to head? Total Runs allowed? how is that calculated.
The coin flip I'm good on. :)

Well, depends on how many teams are in the tournament. Pool play just means that all the teams in that pool, play each other. So, for example, if you have 4 teams, they all play each other and the records could be like:
Team A - 2-1 (beat B and D, lost to C)
Team B - 1-2 (beat D)
Team C - 3-0 (beat everyone)
Team D - 0-3This is a normal example. Team C is ranked first, because of "record." Then, Team A is 2nd, Team B is 3rd and Team D is 4th.
"Head to head" record comes into play, when teams are tied (and that is when things can get a little crazy). I suggest for any tournament you attend, just put the teams into a grid format. Write the four teams across the top and then down the side of a piece of paper. Then, when those teams play each other, write the score. Start with the winner going across and put a W. Then, for the losing team, put a L and the score. This helps keep track of run differential (which is the last component).
Hope that helps. If not, shoot me an email @ cpfc71@yahoo.com

That is a good summary of the pool Al. To be more specific on the head to head explanation, if the teams had records, lets say teams A and B had records of 2-1 and C and D had records fo 1-2. If Team B beat Team A for one of their wins and Team C beat team D for one of their wins the seeding in the pool would be Team B seed 1 Team A seed two Team C seed 3 and team D seed 4. In short Head to head checks your record against the team you are tied with, if you are still tied "Head to Head" then flip a coin.
The Brackets are usually set up with the higher seeds playing the lower seeds. 1's play 4's and 2's play 3's in the example above.
Clear as Mud, right
