sometimes I flinch away from the ball when it comes back at me,I hate doing that but sometimes its a reaction, what can I do? COACHES?

I got hit bad once but I really don't care and it bothers me sooo much when I'm on the mound and I throw the pitch and its fouled off or something I close my eyes and start to turn, if I don't stop doing that I could get killed. so COACHES can you give me any ideas?

Watch the movie Major League. Remember the Third Baseman more worried about his "face" than his team. The team batted balls at him until what seemed like his whole body was bruised. He'd forgotten what it took to actually play his position and became better than he ever was!

Is there another position you play besides pitcher? Do you want to giveup pitching and find another place on the team?

I'm not assuming that you're worried about your face or that having a ball coming that fast at you or getting hit wouldn't throw ANYONE back a few steps.

You chose to be a pitcher, you chose to work hard to be good at it. All the best pitchers face the enemy and overcome. All the great pitchers are aggressive fielders too.

The batted ball is your enemy. Face it down, gather your courage and work with someone you trust to hit the ball to you harder and harder until you don't shut your eyes OR flinch...
Ask for help from your most trusted team mate and work hard to gain your confidence back and become the total pitcher.

    YOU CAN DO THIS.

I believe in you. And so what if you still sleep with a teddy bear; you sure can't go wrong with a trusted friend!

The only way to success is to not quit and give up. Failure comes quickly when we quit. Remember athletes are born winners, not loosers.

Alexis, what are you thinking about when you are on the field? Try to understand what your thoughts are. Becoming aware that you are thinking about what you don't want to happen is the first step to getting over your fear. Focus on what you want.

While you are practicing charge the plate about two stepsready for the ball to come back with no fear because there is no fear and after doing that every practice you will be a habbit that is the only way you can break a habbit and that is to create a new one.

Alexis, my daughter pitches for her varsity team. She wears a mouthguard. Unless you're striking out everyone, you should too. Find one that feels comfortable. It shouldn't be embarrassing, it makes you look fierce!

hehe i know but It is destracting when I pitch..and then I throw balls..lately my coach let me take it off and I did fine. I didn't look away from the ball once..I guess wanting to take it off and show my coach that I didn't need it made me stronger.. =)
