HiAlex,
When you wind up to throw the ball, look at where your front shoulder is pointed when your throwing arm is at furthest point behind you. The ball should follow the direction that your front shoulder is pointing too. For example look at my picture, the way my shoulders are lined up I should throw a lob. A good way to train yourself to do this is point your glove at the target during your wind up and keep pointing until you release the ball.
A couple of other things: Take a step toward the target; get a good four seam grip on the ball, keep your throwing arm elbow up (so it is at the same height as your throwing arm shoulder, before releasing the ball your throwing arm should come over the shoulder, your release point should not be too high.
Good Luck

Alex, the key is the wrist snap when you throw. Usually a lob results from an early release. One drill is to partner with another player about 7-10 feet apart. Then kneel down puting your weight on your back leg (the leg you would use to push off when throwing standing up). Place your other leg in front of you with foot providing balance. Then reach back to throw, but when you throw, make sure that your arm goes all the way through and ends up on the opposite side of your front leg (right arm over left leg). This helps train you to go all the way the throw and get that wrist snap at the end. Sorry the description is complicated, but it really is an easy drill. Good luck!

This is a good drill I ran across in the softball drills section. http://www.weplay.com/youth-softball/drills/280-Arms-Only-Throwing

The only thing I can add is don't be afraid to make a low throw, even if the ball bounces a few times. When you lob the ball it is like a punt in football, you have hang time. Don't be afraid to aim right at the base.

My assistant coach shared this drill with me for a throw to second.
Put a cone at the spot you'd like to target. Usually a throw down low to catch a runner stealing in a sliding position is where you want to focus your attention on.
Keep throwing at the cone - even a ball on the cone would be a terrific target.Start from your normal stance, try from all positions you think you might be throwing from in a game situation and throw from your knees...that will be the throw you're looking toward in the future...
Hope it helps, let us know how it goes...be safe

Try to throw it through the pitchers head (or at about that height). You don't have to throw UP to get it there quick. In fact, even if you can't reach the bag, you're better off throwing it low.
When you throw to the pitcher, I'm sure you don't throw it super high, so throw it similar to that (maybe slightly higher...head instead of chest height), but put all of your legs and power behind the throw.

I actually have the same question with you and I'm thankful that many answered. I have been searching for the answer too. Thank you so much everybody for sharing your knowledge and ideas about this field.
