CIVIL WAR 2008

The Civil War game is soon approaching--Saturday November 29th for those of you who don't have the date on your calendars. First played in 1894, the Civil War is one of the oldest college football rivalries in the nation. If you attended either school, you know how important the win is each year and how devoted the students and residents of Eugene and Corvallis are.

Each November and occasionally early December, the state of Oregon divides as the Ducks and Beavers take the field for the wildest game of the year. I won't say the rivalry doesn't sometimes get carried out of hand. But all in all, it's a healthy competition that the entire state of Oregon looks forward to.

And this year, the Oregon Ducks are looking to redeem themselves at Reser stadium after loosing three of the four last meetings--last year the Beavers beat us by 7 in double overtime--yes it still hurts! But don't let the past few years fool you. Oregon holds the winning record at: 55-46-10 *the game was not contested for a few years back in the early 1900's.
For the first time in three years I will be attending the game. I haven't been since my super senior year at Oregon in 2005 when the Ducks obliterated the Beavers 56 to 14 in Autzen Stadium--it was awesome!

I'm not particularly excited about going to Corvallis, but the winning on Oregon State's turf will be sweet. My friend and Corvallis native Herald Reynolds (former MLB All-Star and current Sports Broadcaster) scored a homerun and got us field passes for the game. Though Herald didn't go to either Oregon or Oregon State, I think he has some love for the Beavers--and no, I don't think that's ok. But I'll just pretend he's cheering for the Green and Yellow.
I'll be taking photos and videos while I'm there and I'll be sure to post a blog about the turnout. I really can't wait! I've already got my Oregon gear ready to go.
One thing Beavers and Ducks can agree on, is the Seventh Annual Civil War Blood Drive. The "Rivals for Life" competition is not just about football, it's about helping save lives. Check it out Oregonians from Nov. 6-22 across the state.
