Though her name translates to "the future," she struggled through 2009, refusing to rest an ankle injury, resulting in a disastrous short program at the 2009 Nationals. Her parents own a small sushi restaurant in Arcadia, California.

A first generation American, Mirai's parents immigrated to the states from Japan.

She speaks fluent Japanese and dines at her parents' sushi restaurant frequently.

Also an animal lover, Mirai has a Chihuahua and a cat.

She enjoys playing video games (especially Wii!) at her neighbor's house.
