We want every youth athlete to celebrate their sports experience and athletic achievements. That’s what a Weplay profile is all about – sharing those memories with friends and family. So we’ve empowered our users under the age of 13 to create more personal profile pages by uploading media, just like Derek, LeBron, Peyton and Jennie!
So far it’s been a huge success. Younger athletes who have requested media permissions from their parents have already uploaded thousands of photos and videos in a few short weeks.
Your positive feedback has reinforced how valuable this new U13 feature is. We understand that kids want to strengthen their relationships both on the field and online with active and valuable participation in their groups. Sports are fundamentally a social experience and every kid should be able to share and participate in a safe environment with parental approval.
In coordination with online safety experts, we also made another update to the family permission system. Parents now have the option to authorize their kids under the age of 13 to type freely like everyone else.
Once approved, younger kids can post public messages in their groups, on friend’s profiles and in public Weplay hubs. Don’t worry parents! You have the ability to turn this feature on and off as you see fit.
As parents ourselves, we believe it’s up to each parent to decide what’s best for their children, especially when it comes to online safety. We hope you take a look at our new family permission system and decide what’s best for your children on Weplay.
Here’s an update on how the system works:
Kids Who Want to Activate Messaging and Media Privileges:
If you’re under the age of 13 simply click on the request link located on your Weplay profile home page. Insert your parent’s email address and send. Your parent will then set your permissions by clicking on the links within the email.
- Parents on Weplay Who Want to Activate Media Permissions For Their Kids:
Parents already on Weplay can also set media and typing permissions by connecting with their child under their family account. If connections have already been made, parents on Weplay can manage permissions by following the 'Manage my Kids' link on their home page.
- Once Permissions Are Given:
Kids under the age of 13 will be able to upload media and message as soon as their parent gives them permission. U13 media will only be viewable by their Weplay friends. *Parents who have a change of heart can turn permissions on or off at anytime.
We hope your enjoy these new features. Feel free send us your feedback: support@weplay.com.
