Sports Mom Ditches Full Time Job to Volunteer

By Kim White

Happy Saint Patricks Day Weplayers!

After leaving her full time job four years ago, Doreen Salamone decided to take on a greater role within her community. From school events to administrative boards and of course her favorite, youth sports programs, 50-year-old Salamone divides her time amongst it all. Currently, our Team Mom of the Week is volunteering as team mom with her son’s Rochester Lions Futbol Club.

The newly formed team has been hard at work, practicing throughout the winter months to gear up for the spring season. “You’d think that they all have been playing together for years” wrote Salamone. They are ready to show off all their skills this weekend at the Flower City 8v8 tournament.

Salamone takes pride in her volunteer efforts, staying as organized as she possibly can . For example, at the start of the season she immediately introduced Weplay to her team as a proactive way to keep parents, players and coaches connected. Her favorite features are team messages and documents. Salamone also feels that Weplay is a great way to help her players mature and not rely on their parents for team information.

Before she was free to work with the Lions and spend extra time with her husband Bernie and two kids Nicole, 17, and Justin, 12, Salamone was a accountant and consultant manager.

It looks like our Team Mom of the Week has found her niche - volunteering! We’ll be cheering for the Lions all season.

Doreen Salamone’s Recommendations for Fellow Team Moms:

  • Make sure you set up your Weplay profile so you receive team messages

  • Use the team message and comments section to ask for or share information

  • Consider having your personal calendar updated automatically from your Weplay calendar.

A team mom's hard work deserves to be rewarded! Nominate yours to be the next Team Mom of the Week.
