Olympic Throwback - Jamaican Bobsled Team

By Candice Coots

In 1988, the Jamaican bobsled team became the first representatives from the island nation to participate in a Winter Olympics. Though the inspiring four-man team finished in last place in Calgary, their journey captivated the hearts of many. Their story also prompted the 1993 movie, Cool Runnings, which I recommend watching as we countdown the last few days until the Vancouver Opening Ceremonies.

The Jamaican bobsled team has continued to grow and improve over the years and indeed will be competing at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. You can learn more about bobsleigh here. For now, here's an Olympic Throwback of the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team during their final heart-wrenching race in Calgary.
