Olympic Throwback - Downhill Skiing

The Flying Franze A.K.A Franz Klammer, is Austria’s most celebrated athlete of all time.

In 1976, competing on his home turf, Franz won Olympic Gold in the downhill with a record breaking race in front of 6,000 fans. Considered one of the most dangerous courses in Olympic history, “Kaiser Franz” as his countryman called him, defeated Bernhard Russi of Switzerland with a time of 1:45:73 in Innsbruck.
